With email interfaces in 18 languages and 200 countries around the world, Commtouch is the only email provider to offer the wireless market a fully integrated, scalable, truly global email solution comprised of wireless applications protocol (WAP), Web and post office protocol (POP) access. The menu of wireless services Commtouch will offer includes unified messaging, calendaring, address book and file sharing capabilities, email translation and synchronization.
Commtouch CEO Gideon Mantel noted that the promise of wireless messaging is enabling mobile users to access and manage messages using their mobile device in a comprehensive and simple, yet powerful manner. "Via Commtouch Wireless service, wireless is all the more powerful with email being the first, fundamental variable of the connectivity equation," said Mantel. "In essence, the Commtouch Wireless platform provides for email to be the glue which cements the convergence of the Internet and the wireless worlds together."
Commtouch has email outsourcing customers around the globe with more than 12 million end users, and the company is enabling its customers to provide their end users access to email and a variety of messaging products and services anytime, anywhere via wireless devices.
Currently in Asia, benefiting from Commtouch Wireless service are Fandango.co.jp, the joint venture of KDD, Japan's second largest telecommunications carrier and Yoshimoto, a leading entertainment company, and iJapan's destination portal, gabugabu.com.
In Europe, Materna, which provides Gateway services through German conglomerate Mannesmann Mobilfunk, is working with Commtouch to allow millions of users already using Commtouch Web-based email service to use SMS services (Short Message Service) in addition to their existing email services.
The Commtouch vision of one platform, one world wireless messaging, includes integration of a menu of additional wireless data and network interfaces, such as SMS, a standard message interface, widely deployed and currently used by millions as a primary messaging strategy throughout Europe.
In North America, MonCourrier.com, Quebec's top community site, is being WAP-enabled, as is Tutopia, a popular Latin America Internet Service Provider (ISP). In the United States, eMobee has signed with Commtouch to WAP-enable a Personal Wireless Assistant (PWA) that allows users of Internet-phones to access/store unlimited contacts so that they don't have to use both a Personal Data Assistant (PDA) and cell phone just to look up a contact and place a call. Users can also store emails, grocery lists, on eMobee's 2301.com site for immediate access by Internet phone.
Heightening the uniqueness of the Commtouch Wireless Service offering is the fully integrated unified messaging service and its optimization for the mobile user. Upon listening to a voice mail or email messages over the cell phone, for example, the mobile user can reply to an email by pressing a key sending a voice response message, or reply by a low-cost voice over IP phone call to the originator of the email. Email can be forwarded to another recipient in the contact book and a fax can be forwarded to a local machine.
By bridging the gap between two parallel communication universes -- telco carriers and the Internet -- Commtouch is WAP-enabling its entire global distribution network of more than 12 million email users to seamlessly manage their email box from virtually anywhere on the planet. The global reach of the Commtouch network facilitates co-marketing and distribution programs, making it an especially attractive.
