One way to limit this type of thing in future is for full disclosure of posters. i.e. names and addresses and occupations. This doesn't have to be the same for those just monitoring, but it would in my opinion help keep a flow of genuine information and remove some of the hype by people promoting stocks for their own ends and I've suggested as much to SI.
