Check out the company website for information, they
have detailed descriptions with pictures, that help
describe the topology of a VoIP network.

The products, in a nutshell are (from bottom to top):

- Audacity chips: used for phone to network translation
allowing regular phones to be connected to an IP-network.
The Audacity chips can be used in phones and in
gateways to provide the underlying support to have
multiple "regular" phones/faxes/etc. connect to a
IP-network.

- Symphony: gateway that supports many "regular" phone
connections and converts to IP-network. The reference
Symphony hub is 4 ports but 8x8 said this will become
more dense (more ports) depending on the needs of the
customer.

- Instraswitch: the control hardware/software that would
manage the VoIP (Voice-over-Internet-Protocol) network.
It is written in Java, highly portable and runs on
a server. See press announcement this week for a
detailed description of the product.

8x8 also still produces/gets licensing revenue from
video communication semiconductors and has a product
line of remote survellance products. These are not
related to VoIP but are good sources of revenue during
this developmental stage of VoIP.

Again, I've really simplified the explanations here,
see the 8x8 website for the nuts and bolts. The
important thing to recognize is that 8x8 is the only
VoIP company I know of that is vertically integrated
with products and can provide a complete bottom-to-top
VoIP solution (chips, hardware, software) for a business
selling/installing VoIP services.
