using stops doesn't necessarily protect your investment.. in 1987 when we had that black thursday or whenever it was i lost 20% because of 'stops' all they do when the bottom falls out is put your securities on the market for a whatever i can get price. Which in 1987 proved to be way below my 'stops' Ever since I've never used 'stops' on sell orders... I do use the other one which says I'll sell if it hits this high price...
