Carl Pabo, Ph.D. (Chairman [Sangamo Scientific Advisory Board]) Dr. Pabo joined the Scientific Advisory Board as Chairman in October 1999. Dr. Pabo is Professor of Biophysics and Structural Biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Investigator, Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Through his efforts to understand how ZFPs bind to and recognize specific DNA sequences, Dr. Pabo has made many of the fundamental observations that have driven the ZFP field over the last ten years. Dr. Pabo, together with Nikola Pavletich, solved and published the first crystal structure of a ZFP bound to its cognate DNA sequence (Science, 1991); perhaps the seminal publication in the field of ZFP rational design.
