Crazy,

<I'm not sure I can agree with your conclusion that the business product mix will or even can shift to the low end.>

I am not saying it will. I am saying it will if the applications do not require that. FYI, the #1 business use of PCs is running "Microsoft Office". Not exactly something that is driving the processor speeds.

To be sure, businesses will continue to buy in the mid-range and high-end for quite some time to come because of the way MIS works but once it becomes obvious that extra MHz is not buying much CFOs will tighten the screws on the MIS guys to change their buying patters. This will not happen overnite but it will happen. If the main stream media calls the MHz story a "scam" a few times it will not escape the bean counters eyes. For example, Wall Street Journal is probably the only paper some of the business types reads and Walter Mossberg carries a lot of weight. I am sure some CFOs are already talking to their MIS folks about that article (especially those CFOs who are trying to squeeze a few dollars to make the next quarter)

<Still, my feeling is when performance counts, go for the power. There are many places in great need for the kind of power AMD is offering on the market. >

No disagreements here. If anyone needs the power, they should go for it. Especially in business the savings of a few hundred dollars per system is not worth it, if there is tangible productivity loss.
