If you were a Yaqui Indian, you would be expected to find a teacher, prove yourself worthy, and purify yourself before being allowed peyote. You would serve an apprenticeship and learn the shamanistic lore. At no time would tripping be treated lightly. The sort of initiation and novitiate that would be expected would be far more onerous than any prescription. And why not? Either there is something serious going on here, or the risk are frivolous.....
