Re: No disagreements here. If anyone needs the power, they should go for it. Especially in business the savings of a few hundred dollars per system is not worth it, if there is tangible productivity loss.

Chuck,
You are completely contradicting yourself here!!!

The bean counters look at productivity!!!

Take my division for example. They pay an entry level person like me about $60,000 (including bonus). They could give me a $1500 computer, or a $3000 computer.

So why do they give us all $3000 computers? Because if they are paying us a minimum of $60,000 a year, an extra $1500 pays off in productivity. To add to that, anyone doing any type of development work saves at least a few hours a week using a fast computer. Like someone else posted, it's the difference of waiting 13 minutes to 4 minutes to run a program. If you're doing this over and over every day, and paying the person $60,000 a year, it only makes sense to give them a top of the line computer. The bean counters are watching, that's why corporations keep buying the best computers. People have been predicting doom and gloom for years, but where's the results?

We are far from seeing any top end.
