PT,

I can upgrade current system to 233

That's probably not worth the effort, and you will not be happy with the improvement after you go through the hassle of upgrading the BIOS, opening the box etc. I don't think I would sink any more money into a Socket 7 system.

A new system will give you greatly improved memory performance, USB, UDMA, huge hard disk for peanuts, DVD and of course much faster CPU. Reinstalling the software will be a pain, but there is no way to avoid it every few years.

I would like a low-end TBird socketed -- a little fun and hopefully a nice future to double the speed. The marginal performance gains from a Athlon 700MHz ($225) to a 900 ($789) are not nearly as cost-effective.

That's what I will probably do as well. Socketed TBird is a good idea. By the summer, $225 will probably buy you an 800 MHz Thunderbird.

Joe
