Joe:

Thanks for your thoughts on the 166->233 and also the low-end socket Tbird. Didn't realize I might have to do a bios upgrade -- the possibility (however remote) that something might cough at the upgrade made the modest benefits not worth the risk. It may be slow but it has been reliable and served well for three years. A P-II might have been a better option as it would have had better upgrade options -- the reason the socketed Tbird is attractive to me.

An on-topic question I have had for a while: Will Spitfires and TBirds be interchangable? For example, could someone buy a low-cost Spitfire system and later upgrade to a TBird since they should have the same socket configuration? Would be a nice flexible upgrade path.

Still might upgrade to 233 for "fun" but not to extend the life of an otherwise obsolete machine. (I invested more in a nice 19" monitor than the box and it will move on to the next machine.)
