KFC's Latest Ad Campaign to Feature Yankees Owner as 'Piece-Maker' for Mix and Match Bucket

Steinbrenner Brings Tough Negotiating Skills to Dinner Table

LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- KFC's newest television ad features New York Yankees Owner George Steinbrenner trying to settle his latest controversial dispute as a peacemaker, or ``piece-maker'' for KFC's Mix and Match bucket, featuring KFC's newest by-the-piece chicken -- Honey BBQ Tender Roast.

The ad, slated to break May 5, begins with Steinbrenner presumably engaged in a volatile contract negotiation. He says, ``Let's pull together like champions and try to work this thing out.'' He pulls out a Mix and Match KFC bucket and asks, ``Now then, who wanted the Honey BBQ Tender Roast?'' It is then revealed that he's at the dinner table with his three grandchildren.

The ad promotes the bucket at participating restaurants, that allows consumers to mix and match KFC's four different kinds of chicken by the piece -- Original Recipe(R), Extra Tasty Crispy(TM), Tender Roast(R) and new Honey BBQ flavored Tender Roast(R).

``Steinbrenner's known for his tough, sometimes controversial management style, so who better to bring a little tongue-in-cheek peace to the table, the dinner table that is, than George?'' said Randy Gier, senior vice president, marketing, KFC Corporation. ``KFC's Mix and Match bucket gives everyone in the family chicken any way they like it, so no fights and no controversy, unless George Steinbrenner is at the table. He fires his grandson in the ad for 'hogging' all the Honey BBQ Tender Roast.''

The advertisement, created and produced by Young & Rubicam/New York, consists of a 30-second and 15-second spot.

KFC Corporation, based in Louisville, Ky., is the world's most popular chicken restaurant chain specializing in both fried and roasted chicken pieces and homestyle sides. Since its founding in 1952 by Colonel Harland Sanders, KFC has been ``America's Leading Kitchen For Convenient Meals.'' KFC is a subsidiary of PepsiCo, Inc., Purchase, N.Y. (NYSE:PEP).
