This part from the release really brings home the point I was making:

According to independent market research firm Dataquest (San Jose, Calif.),
the worldwide market for unpatterned wafer inspection products nearly doubled
in 1995. Dataquest market estimates indicate that Tencor is a leader in this
market, across every geographic region of the world.

Clark Fuhs, a director and principal analyst for Dataquest, additionally noted
that the current dynamic ramp of 200mm wafers is creating intense capacity
demands on the part of silicon wafer suppliers. "Between 1995 and 1998, we expect 200mm wafer consumption to triple, with the market for these wafers
remaining supply constrained through the end of the decade. As a result, silicon
manufacturers need to add capacity and are doing it at a very aggressive rate,"
stated Fuhs.
