Nanogen, Inc. awarded Two U.S. Patents on Electronic Stringency Control and Photonic Energy Transfer.
PR Newswire, Jan 25, 1999

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Nanogen, Inc. (Nasdaq: NGEN) announced today that it has been awarded two United States Patents relating to its microelectronic array technology. U.S. Patent No. 5,849,486, entitled "Methods for Hybridization Analysis Utilizing Electronically Controlled Hybridization," covers methods for hybridization analysis utilizing an electronic stringency control device for varying the electrophoretic force on the hybridization product. The fluorescent signal from the hybridization product is then analyzed for variance as a function of the varying electrophoretic force. U.S. Patent No. 5,849,489, entitled "Hybridization of Polynucleotides Conjugated with Chromophores and Fluorophores to Generate Donor-to-Donor Energy Transfer System" covers biosensors for detecting the presence of DNA target analyte sequences using photonic energy transfer. The patent also covers electronic devices with extended photonic energy transfer systems using donor chromophores and acceptor chromophores capable of converting photonic energy to electronic energy.
