Frankly, E, this is a subject that interests me little. It came up because someone, out of the blue, posted a letter from "Ike"; for what purpose, I don't know. It DOES interest me more than a little when you seem to imply that I am anti-Semitic.

Speaking only for myself (certainly not Steven), Ike, personally, rubbed me the wrong way. Perhaps he reminded me of my ex-wife who had a way of reminding me that the money she earned was her money and the money I earned was our money. Perhaps it seemed that Ike was saying my problems are my problems but his problems are our problems. It is certainly possible that I read too much or the wrong thing into what Ike was trying to tell me.

I have nothing to offer on the turning away of Jews trying to flee the Nazis. Bad things happen in wars; not all for the best of reasons. I don't mean to diminish this tragedy, but as it did not happen on my watch, I refuse to even CONSIDER assuming guilt for it.

I have kin in various WWII cemeteries. They are just as dead as any of Ike's kin. I always visit these places when I'm in Europe and I am always powerfully moved. Once or twice a year, I peek in on web sites that take me back 30+ years and across a different sea and I am always powerfully moved. Sometimes I pour the glass full and spend the whole night staring at bad pictures and reading bad poetry. In the morning and all the mornings that follow, I go on living the life I've got now. It's a pretty good life. Probably a better life than I would have if I obsessed about my losses. Hell, I even admit to remembering more good than bad about my ex.

If you like Ike, it's fine by me. But, please, I wish you would not imply that those who don't like Ike are anti-Semitic. I friggin' hate it when people try to play the racist or bigot card. I reject it.

Have a nice day,

M
