Any generalization about a group that includes 2-3 million people breaks down in a hurry. I could give you horror stories about retailers to match anything from the government short of an IRS audit. They represent a huge blob of humanity too. But it's just sloganeering. I will only add that bashing government workers helps to drive the best people out, leaving you stuck with ambitious bureaucrats and the time-serving dregs that serve you so badly. Unfortunately those people get hardened to the bashing and may have an opinion of you roughly comparable to what you say about them. That's why I'm not sticking around for a pension. It's up to others to judge if that is a net gain or a net loss for taxpayers.
