The sad fact is, since we're dealing with a communist dictatorship, no one knows what the desires of his father are. The young child will probably be brought back to Cuba, and like thousands of other kids, be forced into slave labor to harvest tobacco (probably around the age of 9).
Maybe Al Gore can swing by and teach him how to "hoe it, plow it, and harvest it" since he claims to be such an expert.
If the father was free to decide (which we have no way of knowing) and possessed the knowledge of freedom we have. What caring father would want his son to be raised by the state of Cuba? A truly caring parent would greatfully hand him over to his Aunts to be raised in freedom, instead of forcing him into slave labor in Cuba. The myth is his father will be raising him. He probably won't, Castro and his henchmen will. Everyone belongs to the state and Castro in Cuba.
Far too many Americans take the gift we've been handed from the blood of our ancestors for granted. The Cuban Americans in Florida understand this far better than most Americans. Cuba is being run by an evil dictator. Would you hand your son over to a communist state if given a choice?
Castro is an evil man who has driven the country of Cuba into horrible poverty. When he dies and is eventually succeeded by a free leader of Cuba. We will come to understand the depth of his atrocities.
How many people yearning for freedom do you figure he has tortured and or killed to maintain his vice like grip on power? A thousand? Ten thousand? A hundred thousand?
Why the mainstream liberal press fauns over him as some sort of hero is understandable. Why educated Americans do is astonishing.
The present situation is not as black and white as you suggest. What I would do is allow the father to move in with his aunts for a few weeks away from the prying eyes of Castro. If he still wants his son to return to Cuba after seeing what freedom is all about, then sure, let him have him. But currently, we have no way of knowing what kind of exposure he has had toward what America and freedom is all about.
America didn't kidnap the child from Cuba. He was rescued after his mother courageously risked her life taking a raft 90 miles across shark infested waters hoping for freedom. Can you imagine the courage that took? Risking torture in Castro's jails, Cuban military snipers, currents and so much more. And can you imagine what conditions drove a young mother to such a desperate act? Her memory should be honored by ensuing his father isn't being coerced to spout the Castro party line.
What's the hurry anyway? Are we all so anxious to see a child given away to state slavery?
