JMD: Sagacious observations and POTENTIAL advice(if only it were taken)...Would you be so kind as to either e-mail or fax a copy of your post to Jeanette Clonan VP/IR AND Mac Jaffray of LOR/G*( remember Bernard corrected me and said it was ONE company)...Your comments make so much plain common sense that it is literally painful to see them ignored. I don't know how much advice /input/bitching you have done but I suspect(and they can correct me if I'm wrong) that Maurice and "7minutehorizon(V*).man have sent them plenty of input as have I, (duh!) so maybe it will hit a tiny target of "aha!ism"( so it's not a word, you get the point) if it comes from you, another frustrated investor.
Slightly off topic: Over the years I've consistently used
Valueline evaluations as part of my own DD on sizing up stocks and companies...They've been right-on! with Qualcomm(they missed the size of the runup by a couple of parsecs), ATI before the VOD buyout by many months and old MFS Communications before that company bought UUNet and we all know WCOM story thereafter(though admittedly WCOM has not done so well this last year)...What I'm driving at is the report that came out yesterday that we can only pray is wrong and overly pessimistic. Three months ago their comments were MUCH more sanguine with respect to long term targets for LOR,i.e., up to $60-90/ share but now, blaming debt structure and uncertainty surrounding G*, they post projections for 2003-2005 targets at only $20-30! while waxing , nay nearly swooning over the prospects of WCOM, SPOT, GMH, and GBLX...the only relevance to me and probably to all of us invested in LOR/G* is that Valueline is very widely read, mostly by people like me who go the library to read it(~$600+/yr), and it is certain to have a deleterious effect on stock price over next few months at least for private investors...Sometimes I wake in the morning to go to the monitor thinking in silent disgust that only V* has had enough sense to get out...but still I hold on...forgive, please an early morning rant since there is no tape to watch
and ulcerate over.....Jim Black
PS: I have received so many comments of thanks for my tenacity and have developed a sense of friendship with many faceless posters to this board and sense(though not Catholic or Jewish) feel a certain sense of guilt at not openly confessing that I have a mean streak, to wit: I'd give a hundred dollars to have been there to see the look on the face, the daggers launched from the eyes of that here-highly esteemed recipient of the "7 minute time horizon remark"...if looks could kill, I suspect.
