>>>>> Is this a threat to the future of Flash Memory and SNDK?<<<<
LOL!!
Only if you believe a Vaporware product like this can operate WITHOUT A DISK DRIVE! LOL!
Notice that nowhere is a drive even mentioned in the press release. They are trying to keep this ugly little ommission under wraps. Just look at the miserable failure Iomega's Clik drive for portable devices has been. When that failure was rolled out at a press conference, all these huge companies like Kodak, HP, etc etc were quoted as saying how great it was, signing all these "letters of intent," blah blah blah. Now look at them. Nowhere to be seen around Iomega or their ill-fated Clik portable disk drive.
OEM's will not touch these disk drives because they add too much Bulk, use too much Battery Power, and the cost of the DRVIE must be absorbed by the OEM and passed onto the consumer. This means you can add $150-$200 more to the basic cost of a Palm Pilot, PocketPC, digital camera, etc etc. There is no way of getting around it. This is yet another failure in waiting. It doesn't matter if the disk is 40MB, 500MB, or 50 Gigs. If it adds Bulk, uses too much battery power, and costs too much is IS DOOMED. |
