Hello John

I think we are entering a stage where the oils will be very popular for investment over the coming two years. As far as oil vs gas, both are favorable -- but I think the oils will benefit more over the coming six months.

If I were to be accumulating shares for retirement, my favorites would be Talisman Energy, Alberta Energy, Canadian Occidental Petroleum and PanCanadian Petroleum. Shares in these companies may appear expensive at this time, but if you check out the cash flow to price multiple for year 2000 -- I think you would find them at near their historic lows.

At the next lower level, I still very much favor Genesis Exploration and Startech Energy.

A smaller junior I like is natural gas provider Petromet Resources. You've got to love the extent of their land position and current activities. Another gas play would be Purcell Energy with focus on NWT activity with Chevron.

There are numerous good small plays. The one thing to watch for is the debt positions on these.

In addition, there are quite a few companies whose shares appear cheap. However, I would want to see more favorable fundamentals beginning to materialize before I jump in. Some of these companies include Renaissance Energy, Northrock Resources and Tri Link Resources. Same applies to favorites Paramount Resources and Berkley Petroleum. First real success in California would send shares of these companies to much higher levels.
