mr mark, I rebooted again. I observed the on-screen text and saw it checked the CD first for a boot record. Then it checked the A drive for a boot record [there was no disk inserted]. So on my PC the sequence is CD, A drive, C drive. This is the way it came from the factory.

I know what happens when I have a non-boot floppy inserted at boot: I get an error message saying there is a non-system disk and am asked to remove it and hit ENTER.

This boot sequence info shows up on the screen only. I did not see it in bootlog.txt, at least not so I could recognize it.

This has been an enlightening investigation. Thank you!

Gottfried
