DataPlay needs PCMCIA Type III Drive

I knew it! This thing Dataplay is DEAD before it even rolled off the line.

zdnet.com

Tell me, what MP3 player, digital camera, or any other portable device has a PC Card type III slot? And what company is going to GROW the BULK of their device in order to accomodate this large monster? PC Cards have been left to the full-size Laptop devices and larger. You cannot include a PCMCIA slot in any Modern MP3 players. digital cameras, or ANYTHING portable these days. CF slots, SD/MMC slots, Memory Stick, and Smartmedia is it. These slots are MUCH smaller in size. The PCMCIA type III and the additional housing necessary will increase the size of a typical MP3 player by a multiple of 4! (Not to mention the additional batteries required)

The Kids who are buying these portable devices want SMALL. TINY. COOL. Just look at teh Diamond Rio or I-Jam to see what I mean. The kids WILL CHOOSE NOT TO look like dorks in front of their friends with a BIG, CLUNKY, BATTERY HOG like Dataplay. Dataplay will have just as much success as Iomega's Clik disk drive has had...that is to say ...NONE. A DISMAL FAILURE.
