Dave: it depends on the data vendor. For Townsend (which includes many brokers, such as MB) and Comstock, the Nasdaq composite is $COMPX. The Nasdaq 100 is $NDX.X

In general, to form a RT3 the symbol for an index, add a dollar-sign in front and a ".X" to the end. Unfortunately, there are exceptions, such as $COMPX and $INDU
