I read the Bluetooth story, and the corporate pitch, and find it all somewhat opaque. As best I can make out, some nerds who were into sword- and- sorcery stuff about as much as high tech thought it would be neat-o to name their technology after the great Viking king who united all of Scandinavia, because they fancy themselves conquerors who will integrate technologies. If there is any bearing on your speculations, it has to do with the use of connective devices not requiring cable. However, I am not sure about that, and if I had just read the story, as you asked, I would not know enough to conjecture even that..........
