Mexico's energy minister: "I believe a $25-$30 per barrel band is adequate"

MEXICO CITY, April 7 (Reuters via energy24.com) - Mexico's energy minister, Luis Tellez has given a target range for world oil prices and said the country would co-operate with other major producers to achieve it.

"There must be a price band, and I believe a $25-$30 per barrel band is adequate," said Tellez in testimony to Mexico's Senate.

This compares to a $22-$28 a barrel price band that OPEC has said it will defend, and is higher than a $20-$25 range that Tellez supported in February.

The $22-$28 range refers to the OPEC basket of oil. Mexico is not a member of the OPEC cartel of oil-producing nations.

Tellez said, "I believe this would give stability; what is important is that the mechanism functions and has effective continuity".

The minister said OPEC's decision to adopt policies for three months instead of a year gave the group the necessary flexibility to regulate prices using supply.
