Sorry Stan but I've got to call you on the "equal education" remark. My sister-in-law taught in the inner city in L.A., and the "education" those kids get is nothing close to what the kids in the burbs get. The facilities are rotten, both from neglect and abuse, the teachers in many cases are unmotivated and scared (with good reason) and the atmosphere is not conducive to education. That is not to say there aren't excellent teachers and students (I saw Stand and Deliver) but they are not the norm. The question really is how do we make people self-sufficient and productive, even though life is not fair and not everybody gets an equal shot?

There are lots of ways to do this, but they all require investment or social upheaval. You have to ask your self what kind of a society do you want to live in during the transition.
