Presented by The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences and hailed as the "Oscars of the Internet" by worldwide media, The Webby Awards are the preeminent honors for Web sites. However, in the spirit of the medium, the Webbys abandon the stale parts of old showcards and invent new ones; acceptance speeches are limited to 5 words, for example, and the entire ceremony comes in under 2 hours. It's a unique ovation for the people who press the Internet envelope.
The 4th annual Webby Awards will take place on May 11, 2000 in San Francisco at a host of great venues atop San Francisco's historically rich Nob Hill. The VIP Party will take place in the gorgeous Grace Cathedral, the ceremony at the 3,000 seat Masonic Auditorium, and the post-party at a yet-to-be-disclosed, but very close venue. If you're familiar with The Webbys then you'll know that all of these events are happening a few weeks later this year. Attendance is by invitation only, but if you'd like to get involved, volunteer to join the crew that makes the magic happen on event night.
The third annual Webby Awards was held on March 18, 1999, and nominees announced in early January. Nearly 3,000 digerati attended the event, over 110,000 online fans participated by voting in the People's Voice Awards, and over 6 million people visited the webcast site in the week following the event. Additionally, The awards have received major international press coverage in Entertainment Weekly, Variety, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, USA Today, Washington Post, New York Post, CNBC, Boston Globe, as well as on over 60 local, national and international TV stations.
What do these numbers amount to? They amount to a globe full of cybercitizens coming together to honor and celebrate the best of the Internet.
The Webbys strive to combine the wild diversity of perspectives of the online community with its deep talent in order to recognize the finest work by the most skilled people in the newest field.
It's about superlatives.
It's about the best. |
