(BSNS WIRE) Copper Mountain Announces Deployed Port Capacity of More Than O Copper Mountain Announces Deployed Port Capacity of More Than One Million DSL Ports; One Million Port Milestone Achieved in February 2000 Business Editors/High-Tech Writers PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 10, 2000--Copper Mountain Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:CMTN), the market-share leader in business Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) equipment, today announced that as of the end of February 2000, its footprint of CopperEdge(R) DSL concentrators represented a total port capacity of more than one million DSL ports. Copper Mountain is the market leader in total shipments of business DSL ports, including Symmetric DSL (SDSL) and ISDN DSL (IDSL), and it also sells G.lite (Asymmetric DSL) line cards that support consumer DSL services. "Several factors contributed to the rapid deployment of our DSL concentrators in 1999," said Rick Gilbert, president and CEO of Copper Mountain. "While Tier 1 service providers were the early adopters of business DSL, Tier 2 and Tier 3 providers also began deploying our DSL solutions nationwide. Sales to the multi-tenant unit (MTU) market also ramped, and we have begun marketing our products internationally. In addition to expanding our addressable markets, Copper Mountain also increased support for in-demand services as Frame Relay, Voice over DSL, and G.lite consumer DSL." Multi-Service Capabilities Boost Sales "Copper Mountain realized early on that the market needed an intelligent platform that would allow carriers and service providers to offer multi-service DSL," said Keith Higgins, director of marketing at Copper Mountain. "During the past year we have added support for Frame Relay services, virtual private network (VPN) services for secure corporate communications over DSL, and for Voice over DSL (VoDSL), which enable carriers to offer converged voice and data services to subscribers. We also support new network-based IP services, which are generating a lot of interest." During the past year, Copper Mountain has emerged as the leading supplier of DSL concentrators to Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs). In 1999, Copper Mountain accounted for $108.1 million, or 42.5 percent, of total business DSL concentrator sales of $254.4 million, according to a report from the Dell'Oro Group (Feb. 2000). The Dell'Oro report also states that Copper Mountain attained the number-one position in business DSL ports shipped industry-wide, accounting for 42.9 percent, or 295,000, of the total 687,900 business DSL ports shipped in 1999. "The growth rate of the DSL market is increasing rapidly," said Beth Gage, senior broadband consultant of TeleChoice. "Copper Mountain has consistently shown an ability to get to market with a broad range of DSL solutions and to offer capabilities that service providers need to address customer requirements. Add to that a large and growing list of customers, and the company is well situated to maintain a leading position in the DSL market."
