Do you know that the CEO of Lucent was a history major?
I understand your point about LU, Marv, but, in spite of my slamming of Liberal Arts Majors on this thread, it can be a great major if you understand what you need from it.
And what you need is the training to organize your thoughts and write them out. Good communication skills will get you to the top in our world, even if you are short on the technical ones.
One outstanding trait of the people on this thread is the ability that they all have to communicate well. If you don't have this ability, you don't last long here.
The intelligence level here is very high, of course, but there are a lot of very intelligent people on other threads on SI that cannot handle it here because they either have not learned how to communicate effectively, and/or they let their emotions run their posts. I sum up the two main traits you need to succeed here, and in life, as:
1) Intellectual Curiosity.
2) Intellectual Honesty.
Then, if you have learned to restrain your emotions, and treat others civilly, you should do well. |
