CIO Conference Presentation To Focus On How Usage-Based Billing System is Being Used to Monitor Amount of Network Resources Consumed By Each End-User NetScout(R) Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTCT), a global provider of business-critical network management solutions, today announced that Fidelity Investments will present on their use of NetScout's solutions at CIO magazine's "The Face of the Now Economy" conference April 16-19 in Naples, Florida. The discussion will focus on how NetScout enabled Fidelity to tackle the spiraling costs of network usage.
Fidelity Senior Vice President, Bobby Lie will explain how Fidelity is using Apogee's NetCountant solution in conjunction with NetScout's instrumentation to provide a usage-based approach to network billing. Continuing its aggressive business growth without losing control of network costs, Fidelity has been able to monitor the amount of resources consumed by each business unit and then bill the users accordingly. Reducing its wide-area network traffic by 17 percent, Fidelity saved $9.8 million in the first year.
"We are pleased that Fidelity has decided to share their experience with NetScout in creating a business-model of their enterprise network," said Anil Singhal, chairman and chief executive officer, NetScout Systems. "The combination of NetScout's instrumentation with Apogee's NetCountant solution enables the collection of statistical data in a large network environment, consisting of thousands of conversations. By combining this information with its user information base, Fidelity can generate invaluable reports that provide insight into areas of high bandwidth consumption and potential cost reduction."
Fidelity is using the NetScout solution to monitor application traffic across its wide area network (WAN). As the nation's largest mutual fund company, Fidelity has a vast data network infrastructure that supports over 30,000 employees and 70-plus business units worldwide. With the usage-based billing solution in place, Fidelity has been able to account for 95 percent of its WAN traffic by cost center, recognizing benefits such as increased application responsiveness, improved capacity planning and strengthened relationships with information technology customers.
Introduced by NetScout in August 1999, NetCountant is a part of the company's Application Flow Management (AFM) solution, which gives network managers comprehensive, real-time data necessary to manage networks and track the impact of application flows on business productivity. Based on award-winning technology from Apogee Networks, Inc., NetCountant helps organizations control costs by precisely tracking and managing network resources. Customers benefit from having a single source for management software, instrumentation, integration and support.
