Nortel Networks, Glenayre Provide Enhanced Messaging Solution To Cox Communications

Companies Complete First Cable Telephony Installation

CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Glenayre Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: GEMS - news) and Nortel Networks* (NYSE: NT; TSE) today announced the companies have completed their first installation of enhanced voice messaging and call management services for Cox Communications, Inc., one of the nation's largest broadband communications companies and a leading provider of cable telephony services in the U.S.

Together, Nortel Networks and Glenayre offer an enhanced messaging solution to service providers that combines Nortel Networks' advanced switching products with Glenayre's MVP© modular voice processing system. Cox will use Nortel Networks' multi-service switching systems in its cable telephony markets in combination with Glenayre's MVP© modular voice processing system to enhance its local service offering.

Cox Digital Telephone customers subscribing to the Cox Voice Mail feature will benefit from new and enhanced options with the Glenayre enhanced services solution. Automatic Callback, among the new applications, provides customers with the convenience of returning phone calls directly from the voice mailbox. After listening and replying to their messages, customers are returned directly back to their voice mailbox. Instead of a surcharge or higher price for these calls, customers will only pay the standard Cox rates for local and long distance calling.

``Glenayre and Nortel Networks provided us with a platform and solution to help us deliver even more convenient, useful services that enhance our overall digital telephone product offering for customers of Cox Digital Telephone,' said Tom White, product marketing director for Cox.

``The integration of Nortel Networks' cable telephony services and Glenayre's enhanced messaging offerings is a winning combination for Cox customers,' said Steve Pusey, president, Cable Media Solutions, Nortel Networks. ``Nortel Networks' portfolio provides not only a total solution for local and long distance services, but also offers an easy evolution to next- generation Succession* solutions for converging voice, video and data communications. We are pleased to extend our business relationship with Cox and further strengthen our commitment to the cable industry.'

``Glenayre is excited about the opportunity to work with Nortel Networks to provide Cox with a complete enhanced service offering,' said Bill Edwards, Glenayre Senior Vice President of World-Wide Sales. ``Glenayre's enhanced services platform provides a complete line of personal communication services which will help Cox provide the latest services for its customers. The cable industry represents a new and growing market opportunity for Glenayre and we are proud to be entering this market with Cox as our first customer.'
