Sounds like a less costly, slightly riskier variation of LEAP Substitution Therapy (sell the stock and buy in-the-money LEAPS on the same stock). I have thought about doing something like that but have had my decision making clouded by thoughts of paying taxes on the gains that I have accumulated. Last Tuesday about mid-day my gains were taxed (or was that axed) on paper far more than I would have been taxed if I had sold earlier and paid the Feds their due. Makes you think about what could really happen.
