Of course it can. It is the old prime mover thing- why not stop before one gets to God- oooh look, DNA is all very closely related, therefore it looks like at some point it might have come from the same place, why does one have to put a God behind the place where DNA comes from- it's an extra layer of unnecessary, and improbable complexity. Of course if God chooses to reveal himself and TELL us about it- in person- where we can ALL see him- then I guess we'll believe him (although HE might be taking credit for evolution- a false God passing by, seeing a good opportunity) The universe COULD have arisen yesterday- created to baffle and confound us all, we COULD have been created yesterday with history and memories that make us all THINK we've been living all this time. It's just not probable.
