Jim, Regarding Money magazines piece... ...you stated: Money magazine may or may not be the last word, but I thought the thread might be interested in two picks in Money's May 2000 cover story on tech. Two picks in components: Sandisk and Smartdisk. The thing that strikes me is the fact that Sony will need to buy boatloads of floppy adapters from SmartDisk in order to continue their record of ease-of-use they intiated with the release of the Mavica line of digital cameras. The floppy disk was at one point in time SanDisk's biggest threat. The Mavica was a huge success and continues to have a significant following specifically because of the PC interface it exploits. In fact, many place this functionality ahead of all other attributes such as storage capacity, CCD resolution, camera bulk and write speed. During 2000 there will be any number of Sony Mavica users upgrading from VGA and XGA resolution devices to either a Sony device with Memory Stick (and by necessity a SmartDisk floppy adapter) or a competing standard (preferably with CompactFlash!!!). Recall also that the SmartMedia FlashPath is a SmartDisk (SMDK) product. SanDisk will also rely on them for both the MMC and SDMC floppy adapter. I mean, there has to be a limit as to the number of devices you can daisy chain from a single parallel port connector, isn't there??? smartdisk.com Ausdauer
