Dotcom e-commerce clearification?

Most stores are going for in store kiosks. Trying to capitalize on their present customers. AMES realized early that they did not know e-commerce when they stopped their experiment to music online.

The reason is they did not have captive market. Competition in the early days of e-commerce means you give away the merchandise to gain hits online.

Now, the e-commerce strategy is clearer. Setup exchanges with captive customers from large company employees. Preferably with higher income customers to anchor the site. Sign up vendors who has surplus merchandises for auction and regular merchandises that the stores do not carry. And you will have an e-commerce with volume business.

Is it key club or Sam's club online? Is it direct mail catalog sales? Is it reaching worldwide sales, market without boundaries? Is it too early or maybe too late for AMES? It is open for debate. But reaching captive customers with 5-10% discounts may be more important, especially for a fee($29.95) with or without e-commerce. Is it a key club within a store?

AMES' present strategy does not have to include this level of investment on e-commerce for future gains. However, a national strategy may start with e-commerce investment, some day.
