So what Nuance is doing is constructing a grammar and a
parser on top of its base speech recognition engine. This
is value added, but manpower intensive. One reason could be
that its engine is too complex to be programmed by other
engineers; or that it wants to be in a vertical niche.

Second, why would you make a comparison between LHSP which
runs on a desktop v/s Nuance which runs at the server end ?
This is akin, imho, to comparing MVS with MS-Windows.
