It was not Microsoft that came up with Windows, although
Microsoft would like everyone to think they pioneered the technology. Apple introduced it on the high end Lisa line and then, several years later, ported it over to their Macintosh line in 1984. It was actually Xerox that did the pioneering work on Windows and the use of mice.

I doubt you will find too many folks that are disappointed in the Apple implementation of Windows. And, in the early 90's there were other Windows options for the PC besides Microsoft that actually were a step ahead of Microsoft in features (including multitasking capabilities).
