Texaco Fuels Up With Dell Computer
Global Energy Company Standardizing With Dell Products, Services

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 10, 2000--Texaco announced today that it has formed a strategic relationship with Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq: DELL - news) and has selected Dell as its corporate standard for desktop and notebook personal computers and workstations.

In addition to Dell(TM) OptiPlex(TM) desktop PCs, Latitude(TM) notebook PCs and Dell Precision(TM) Workstations, Dell will provide Texaco with a suite of services, including custom software image loading through its DellPlus factory integration service, asset tagging, and warranty and technical support through Dell's strategic partnership with IBM Global Services.

``This alliance with Dell is an important component of Texaco's strategy to optimize our use of technology in all areas of our business,' said James R. Metzger, Texaco Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. ``Our direct relationship with Dell will allow us to increase operational efficiencies, better manage product transitions and reduce our total cost of ownership.'

Texaco is leveraging Dell's reliability and direct business model to control its total desktop costs, as well as place and track orders through the Internet using Dell's Premier Pages(TM) service. Dell Premier Pages are customized, password-protected web sites created for business and institutional customers.

The ease and convenience of online commerce is shifting power from the manufacturer and traditional marketers to customers, who increasingly are demanding direct, real-time access to information to make faster, more informed purchasing decisions. Dell's Internet Direct business model will make it easier for Texaco to connect directly with its customers and suppliers and conduct business online through the Premier Pages Service, Dellnet Internet access and the Dellnet.com portal site.

``We are committed to delivering a cost-effective, highly reliable solution for Texaco that is customized to address its I/T needs,' said Joe Marengi, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Dell's Relationship Group. ``The one-to-one direct relationships maintained with our customers enable Dell to understand what they want from their business relationships and to provide products and services that meet their specific needs.'
