Anybody see this...--9:44 am Intel to bump up chip building capacity
Intel (INTC: news, msgs) is up 2 1/16 to 138 7/8, following a report that said the chip giant will invest $6 billion this year to increase chip production. Speaking in Tokyo at a news conference, Craig Barrett predicted a possible shortage in semiconductors across the board this year and possibly next year. He said 80 percent of the $6 billion will be spent on manufacturing capacity for computer chips and the rest will go toward the production of flash memory chips, which are widely used in cell phones and hand-held computers. The PHLX Semiconductor Index ($SOX: news, msgs) is rising 1.1 percent. Among some of its components, Rambus (RMBS: news, msgs) is gaining 8 3/8 to 254 7/8, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD: news, msgs) is 1 3/8 better at 76 7/8 and Applied Materials (AMAT: news, msgs) is 1 3/4 lighter at 113 1/
