Actually, I forgot one of the trips in my calculation. You upload to the satellite, then it downloads to the ISP on the ground, who then uploads what you have requested back to the satellite, and then back down to you. So it's really two round trips before you can get anything back, at least .5 seconds, and that doesn't account for processing delays at the satellite, the transmission station or the ISP (the ISP is probably further down the pipe from the satellite transmission station, for even more delay). So you may have a bit of a lag for initial responses.
