Microsoft should pay, and probably will. They've already paid Caldera. I hope that the DOJ will prevent this behavior in the future. That's one of my suggested remedies, but I don't know if it will happen. And I do most certainly believe that Corel could get possibly billions in a civil suit, especially with damages trebled, as they are in a antitrust case, but because Corel now depends on Microsoft's VBA, it doesn't look likely that that will happen soon, since Mr. Cowpland has been calling them a partner. Of course, if Microsoft doesn't stop distributing its software through OEMs, I don't see what chance Corel has in the Windows world. Maybe if Corel teeters on the verge of bankruptcy, they'll be compelled to see Microsoft as it really is--an adversary. |
