I agree. But pre-IPO investments, even before the recent "mania", were almost always better than market returns. In addition, Intel has the advantage of a clearer vision of where the marketplace is going when making it's investments.

I agree again. But I don't believe the street respects even more modest returns or gives them the valuation weight that they do from earnings from operations. The analysts seem to say it's only investment income, as if it isn't real money. On the other side of the coin, I think the "one time charges" that some companies take each and every quarter should be given more valuation weight, and they are usually totally disregarded.
