Vertel Launches Next-Generation CORBA for Palm OS

First-Ever Wireless CORBA

Industry Leading e*ORB Software for Palm OS Lets PDA Become an Interactive Part of the
Company Network

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 11, 2000-- Vertel Corporation (NASDAQ:VRTL - news), a leading provider of mediation software
for telecommunications networks, announced today that an optimized version of its CORBA-based, e*ORB(TM) software has been released to allow applications
to be developed on hand-held computing devices using the Palm OS© from Palm Computing Inc.

The e*ORB software was designed to enable wireless personal computing devices to be part of a company's corporate intranet.

Optimized specifically for embedding in PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants), e*ORB software will enable users, for the first time ever, to use standards-based
CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) protocols to access their corporate intranet, retrieve documents from the network and check and send
e-mail.

In a similar vein, PDA manufacturers can upgrade services and applications for their entire customer base -- remotely. Vertel has received its first order for a
wireless Palm application that enables logistics information to be passed from a control center to remote locations and the software is currently being evaluated by a
number of companies for use in wireless data applications.

Vertel e*ORB software and advanced CORBA technologies are uniquely applicable in hand-held and palm-top computing devices.

The telecommunications industry's first ORB (Object Request Broker) technology designed with the 99.999 percent reliability, very high speed, small footprint and
platform independence required by telecommunications applications, has been made with the even smaller form factor and efficiency required by hand-held devices
and applications.

In addition to Palm OS, e*ORB software can be embedded in wireless PDA operating systems such as Windows© CE and EPOC from Symbian.

``Our telecom-specific middleware technologies are complementary to the small form factor and robust reliability required by wireless applications and devices,' said
Bruce Brown, president and chief executive officer of Vertel. ``They will help revolutionize the growth of new globally distributed applications and processing
environments that extend corporate intranets and the Internet to mobile devices.'

Vertel is pioneering innovative CORBA solutions (using its telecommunications knowledge) to bring a breed of applications to market that before now were literally
not possible for mobile PDAs.

Today Vertel is diversifying its telecom technologies to allow service providers, including ASPs, to provide end-to-end guarantees and quality-of-service-based
service level agreements all the way down to hand-held devices.
