Another slant on home networking, from a newsletter.

The Ashley Internet Investment Advisor is a newsletter I have been getting on a trial basis. In a discussion of Panja, Inc I was pleased to see brief mention of
Echelon:
<<Panja Inc [PNJA 23-6 9/16 for the month of March] Panja supplies technology and equipment to operate all the devices
in the home of the future with a wireless control system. I visited Panja's corporate office in March to see first hand the prospects for this undiscovered upstart. the company's latest product--the Panja 1000--will now allow you to operate your electronic equipment and appliances (anything important in your home) either through clever and convenient local controls, or remotely via the Internet. At the click of a wireless box, you can play or record your favorite music, see any conceivable movie, adjust your air conditioning, or, for instance, brew up a pot of coffee. Price and distribution are the keys to Panja competing successfully in what people have begun to call "home networking." It's estimated that this market segment will
soon soar into the billions and the winner(s) will become high-visibility household names. Panja and Echelon (ELON) are leading the pack right now. Panja needs to get its Internet-linked product distributed through cable and DSL broadband carriers ASAP. The company announced the first such deal in March. Global Crossing agreed to offer the Panja 1000 to its own customers and, if all goes well, Panja should see a wave of new subscriptions within six months. Additional distribution deals are critical and management seemed optimistic that more would be forthcoming. If and when they happen, look for this stock to get attention either from Wall Street or from a bigger company looking for cheap entry into home networking. That would be a win either way for PNJA investors. It's very cheap at this price. BUY!>>

Admittedly, this is a minimal mention of Echelon, but I liked its top billing as leading the pack. Excitement is really boiling around the Digital Home, although I expect it is at least two years away. Also I do not own Panja.
