I think most of us remember the drill from 1997 - now certain analysts will start discussing "concerns about Nokia's profit margins in light of the industrywide pressure on handset prices".

Glossary:
Industry = Motorola

I'm not bitter at Motorola for underperforming - they're not doing it on purpose. I'm bitter at them for building up this come-back story while full well knowing they're slipping in Europe. They set up that poor Businessweek journalist to write a puff piece just days before announcing the profit shortfall in handsets.

It's Aunt Edna in Phoenix who buys a stock based on articles like that. Moreover; Motorola is once again blaming its own problems on an industrywide trend. They're pissing in the swimming pool instead of taking the responsibility for low phone margins.

This hurts the entire sector until other companies start reporting 1Q numbers.
