Having worked for the DOD (at Los Alamos and Sandia) during much of the 80's and some of the 90's, I can assure you that the internet was created largely by the government, and that Gore was a key player.

Scumbria,

Its too bad the public perception of Gore. I find him to be one of the few politicians not to suffer from extreme meglamania. His comments appear to be well thought out....his speech at Columbine last year suggest he is a great orator.

His stance on the environment is nothing less than heroic. And less you think the environment is fine, think again....a report has just come out stating that the wildlife on American rivers is slowly dyng out. Last year there were not enough bees to pollinate the fruit trees in Wisconsin. Here in the Northwest the native salmon is dying out and heron are refusing to return to local lakes that they have inhabited for hundreds of years. And the grizzlies in norther B.C. are starving because they can't find salmon to eat. The ozone hole in the Arctic has grown dramatically in the past 5 years. The island states in the South Pacific are slowly disappearing under the sea due to global warnings.

Gore tirelessly pushes on environmental issues not because they are sexy but because he perceives a danger. I could never see Bush or Clinton doing that.

And besides I don't think he is into cigars.

Bottomline: its too bad people don't take him more seriously.....I think he would bring back honor to the presidential office.....something I believe the office desperately needs.
