followup: animedepot.com experiences Did some shopping. Here's my experience. good * Great selection. * Cheap prices on video tapes. * Phone service was really good. fair * amazon.com has moderately better prices on common DVD disks. animedepot seems to charge a special premium on this as compared to Amazon's special discount. animedepot's interface makes it difficult to see exactly what you are getting as compared to amazon: * Video tape/DVD * Pure Japanese/ English dubbed / Japanese with subtitles. They should standardize their product selection pages to address this. bad * Some of the descriptions for merchandise are wrong on anime depot. * They claim special security (the animedepot folks can't get your credit card number) but then have you send your info in plain text. They should put this on a SSL server. * Server is to slow to generate pages consistently. (That explains not using SSL, they need a much faster server before they can think about using SSL encryption.) * They put a padlock gif on the order page which could mislead the naive think they are using SSL encryption. Don't know if that was intentional. Overall It wouldn't take a great deal of effort to fix all this and have a really great site. So, I must conclude that animedepot has alot of potential. Their web interface can, at some hours of the day, be used to help setup a telephone order.
