I think you just answered your own question. Big OEMs like Dell, Compaq, and HP are snapping up all of the 840 motherboards out there. It is a very successful workstation platform, or so I'm told. I guess that's also where most of the RDRAM has been going as well.

Last I heard, Intel is still working on them. The goal is to switch to all flip-chip socket by end of 2000. By then, Slot 1 should be "dead dead dead." ;-)
