I don't fear offending religious anybody. My intent was not cowardice but courtesy. I did not want to fuel an evangelical Core War within Feelies.
We've got some pretty lively debate going on today, but to my delight it is largely about the big questions of faith, proof, and the use of words in staking out the overlapping territories of religion, positivism, and their political consequences. (Or maybe that's how it looks through my Pert-colored glasses, lol)
Since this thread is populated by many self-described agnostics and atheists, it tends to be a large, slow target for Ask God and other collections of the evangelically compelled on SI. I personally find barrages of evangelical loyalty tests tiresome. But I will participate in more considered debate, since I hold onto the perhaps idealistic conceit that there is something to be gained in a polite exchange of ideas. Let's see what the day brings.
