Hi!

RE: Buy MSFT and then use the profits to buy more DELL!

Yes...I mentioned in another post that this past Sunday I was begging one of the guys on our finance committee to buy some more MSFT...There is no question that at these levels it's a steal...Yet, I'm always been "led" further and further out there in my dreams as to where DELL can be with their model and efficiencies...As one friend put it..."Kemble, they are so flexible"...Patrick has often remarked that the most incredible aspect above all else is that DELL has been turning this "ship" worth $18-25billion and the vast vast vast majority of the world and in our opinions shareholders haven't figured it out that much really has changed...In our opinions DELL has totally turned this "ship" and is about to throw some incredible results up to the world shortly...Yet, I'm sure that MSFT shareholders could feel the same...The opportunities for all technology is so vast it would be difficult to debate who had what over who...I'm just addicted to following Michael on this tour and it never ceases to amaze me how far in advance they are planning and plans that have so much revenue growth potential...Potential because currently the pond is so small and going "DOWN THE ROAD A BIT" the possibilities are so enormous..
The recent announcements concerning the servers are a good hardware point of interest...When did DELL decide?: "only 4% of the servers required to run the internet by 2004 are currently in existence...and all of these will have to be upgraded by then" Andy Grove...DELL pushing so much of the business to Nashville and centering the server business in Austin? The two server facilities....Planning and building them? Heck, Andy Grove made that comment at DELLCONNECT in August of 99 and that second server facility was under construction then...Yes, it's the flexibility of any company that is critical...DELL has been not only moving in the hardware end to a higher margin...They've been planning on how to "sell" their success of the past 15 years to others...IMO much if not all of Michael's travels this past year have been aimed at "teaching" executives why DELL is the only "E" company to deal with...Training this force to deal with this is also an incredible undertaking...and on and on and on...Below is what prompted all this dreaming:
"THE INTERNET HAS ALSO INCREASED THE ADVANTAGE OF VIRTUAL VALUE CHAIN BY REQUIRING FASTER DECISION MAKING AND SHORTER DEVELOPMENT CYCLES. DELL'S MODEL, IN FACT, HAS BEEN HAILED AS THE NEW MODEL FOR THE INFORMATION AGE. YOU'D BE HARD PRESSED TO FIND A DOT.COM THAT IS NOT VIRTUAL. SO, GIVEN THAT OUR MODEL IS MORE TIMELY THAN EVER BEFORE, AND OUR COMPETITIVE POSITIONING MORE ENVIABLE."
I've heard projections for the next five years and rumors that they are currently looking at the next ten...They scare me! That's why I consider DELL the most undervalued company today..

Best, Kemble
