Plaz, you are right about the AGP texturing. In my laundry list of Tom's anti-Intel rants, I didn't have time to elaborate on the AGP issue.

You're right, accessing the textures in main memory (via "AGP execute" mode) is a feature that very few graphics cards need or rely on nowadays. On the other hand, there is a lot of bandwidth consumed in downloading textures from main memory to local memory on the graphics card. So the bandwidth of AGP is indeed useful, just not exactly in the way Intel intended.

I think when AGP was introduced, it was at least a year ahead of its time. It took that long after the introduction of AGP before the benefits really began to show up. Seems like Rambus could also be a year ahead of its time, even after all of the delays and the current supply problems. But if Intel remains committed to Rambus, at least for non-servers, I'm sure the benefits will become much more apparent even to the anti-Rambus dogs like Tom Pabst.
